It is known fact that cigarette smoking is extremely addictive and harmful, but not everyone knows the totality of the risks of cigarette addiction. Smoking causes our body to have too many irremediable damages and with every cigarette we reduce our lifespan to 5 minutes. Not only we put our life at peril but to our near and dear ones with whom we live. So, quit smoking as soon as possible and learn how to quit smoking with different methods.
LETS DISCUSS THE EFFECTS OF SMOKING ON OUR BODY AND THE NEED FOR QUITTING SMOKING:
Before discussing how to quit smoking with different methods, lets first discuss the worst affected parts:
Which are the Lungs. The hot smoke destroys the small hairs present and meant to filter the air pollution in the upper parts of our airways. These hairs are meant to protect the lungs from dust, germs, pollens, and many other particulate matters. When this hairs are destroyed, dust, germs, pollens, and many other particulate matters enter the lungs causing different symptoms like coughing, sneezing, lung infection, cancer, infection, and bronchitis. Also, thick tar (yellow sticky fluid) gets deposited in the alveoli (air sacs of the lungs) and permanently damage them causing heavy breathing or improper breathing and reduces a person’s capacity to exercise.
Cardiovascular or Heart. Smoking increases the risk factors manifold for all kind of heart diseases. It stimulates the process of deposition of fat inside the arteries causing atherosclerosis. The blood pressure increases and so as the heart rate. Also, smoking increases the chance of blood to form clot.
Digestive or Gastrointestinal System: Smoking causes the phenomena as heartburn, delays body’s recuperating or healing power and thus delays healing of peptic ulcers, stimulates formation of gallstones, and risk of Crohn’s disease increases. Our liver is affected and also the chances of stomach cancer increases.
Legs or lower extremity: Smoking damages the peripheral system of our body, i.e, the blood vessels which supplies blood to our legs and thus causing swelling and pain in the legs and sometime it can lead to gangrene of the toes and/or feet.
Eyes: Smoke also damages the tiny blood vessels of our eyes and in turn causes itching and redness in our eyes. In heavy smokers, it can lead to the irreversible damage and loss of vision. Cataract is one of the side effects often found in smokers.
Skin or Integumentary System: Smoking causes the skin deprived of oxygen and its texture is lost. You can judge a smoker’s face and decide how old does he look versus his actual age, generally they look 5 years older than their actual age, as the healthy glow of the skin is lost and slowly wrinkles appear as the skin loses its elasticity.
Bones: It deteriorates our bones by making them feeble and accelerating osteoporosis.
Cancer: One of the worst causes of death and the need to quit smoking immediately is the number of deaths it causes via cancer. It causes various types of cancer such as lung cancer, larynx cancer, cancer of the oral cavity, pharynx cancer, cancer of the oesophagus and cancer of the bladder. There are more than sixty types of cancer causing substances found in tobacco causing cancer which is responsible for approximately 80% to 90% deaths related to lung cancer.
Reproductive or Genitourinary System: Reduced fertility is often caused due to smoking and quit smoking is advisable with immediately in both sexes.
NOW GENDER WISE
In male smoking affects erection and may lead to erectile dysfunction. The quality of semen is affected by decreasing the sperm count and impairing the motility rate of sperms, but this is reversible if we quit smoking.
In female smoking causes hormonal imbalances especially estrogen imbalance. Also, it causes vaginal dryness, reduction in the blood flow towards vagina. Also, women are prone of fallopian tube disease through and smoking affects egg production. Abortion can be caused due to smoking. Aging process gets increased causing menopause at an early stage.
Smoking during pregnancy is extremely dangerous so quit smoking even quite before conceiving. Baby growth gets affected if the mother is a smoker. The development of the baby’s brain gets affected and thus reducing the IQ. So, even the fathers are advised to quit smoking and thus avoiding passive smoking for to be moms.
Thus the motto of discussing so many harmful and life-threatening side effects is to quit smoking. It may looks an upheaval’s task but once you go through the harmful affects it looks easier.
HOW TO QUIT SMOKING WITH DIFFERENT METHODS:
It is needed that you prepare mentally to Quit Smoking, as it is more mental than physical. By quitting smoking, you are not only doing great to yourself but for near and dear ones and for the whole environment.
1. GETTING A QUIT BUDDY
It is really difficult for those to quit who smokes in social circle. So quit in group or at least a few friends which will really make it happening and easy because now whatever pangs you will suffer you are not alone but few of your friends are also going through the same phase and this thought that you are not alone will give you mental strength to really quit.
2. EXERCISE IT OUT
Exercise not only helps in quit smoking but also make an instant healthier feel to you. You will feel that how much vigor, vitality, stamina, focus, and youthfulness you were losing with smoking and slowly gaining back with exercise, which will further strengthen your resolve to quit smoking.
3. THE COLD TURKEY METHOD
It Is Often Said The Best Way To Quit Smoking Is Cold Turkey:
Quitting smoking is more mental than physical to get rid of the craving to smoke and after a long spell of smoking the best way to quit smoking is to go cold turkey. Cold turkey means simply quitting smoking without any outside help or medicinal support. The shorter the number of years smoked the greater the success rate is when quitting smoking via cold turkey.
4. NICOTINE PATCHES ARE OFTEN ONE OF THE BEST WAY TO QUIT SMOKING:
Quitting smoking is psychological as well as physical. The physical aspect is that our body craves for nicotine which we used to get through the tobacco content of our smoke. We then start finding any alternate to replace the nicotine craving and thus at least reducing the body’s craving for it to make quit smoking successful. Nicotine comes in patches, lozenges, or gums.
5. BUPROPION HYDROCHLORIDE (ZYBAN) OR CHANTIX IS ALSO VOTED BY FEW AS THE BEST WAY TO QUIT SMOKING:
Taking prescription medicine like Zyban or Chantix is the non-nicotine way to quit smoking but only under strict medical supervision as at times it causes side effects like, lack of sleep, irritated or runny nose, dry mouth, dizziness, nausea, etc. But these side effects can be managed if take under strict medical supervision.
6. HYPNOSIS IS ALSO ONE OF THE BEST WAY TO QUIT SMOKING:
One who has quit smoking using hypnosis easily vouches for its success. Often after failing every other method, people go for it and success rate is amazing.
NOTE: TO QUIT SMOKING-THERE IS NO SINGLE METHOD APPLIES TO EVERYONE.
Now we have learned how to quit smoking with different methods but as we all are different by shapes, sizes, mentality, habits, duration of smoking, type of smoking, quantity of smoking, social circles, environment, psychosocial structure, etc., we cannot be generalized into one to quit smoking.
